Title: Data-Driven Design Strategies for Intelligent Biomanufacturing
Abstract:
Addressing the challenge of achieving a global circular bioeconomy relies on developing efficient and robust bioprocesses to operate at different scales. While key production routes to bio-based chemicals for the bioeconomy have been identified, their implementation remains inefficient due to suboptimal titers, rates, and yields during scale-up. To address these limitations, strategies such as automated screening and dynamic pathway regulation through whole-cell biosensor circuits can be applied as part of strain optimisation. In this talk, I will present an integrated toolkit that leverages scientific machine-learning models in the extended metabolic space, using both experimental and synthetic datasets generated by biosensors, overcoming challenges of limited mechanistic knowledge in complex biomanufacturing processes. By applying our tools through iterative Design-Build-Test-Learn (DBTL) cycles, we have identified optimal designs for various industrially relevant biomanufacturing applications, both for automated screening and dynamic regulation. In that way, our approach contributes to a deeper understanding of data-driven approaches for intelligent biomanufacturing, highlighting their potential in producing high-value molecules.
